Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC), Senator Rand Paul introduced the Risky Research Review Act. The proposed bill would establish a Life Sciences Research Security Board within the Executive Branch, that is permitted to manage the allocation of funds for gain-of-function research and other high-risk life science research that may pose risks to public health, safety, or national security. Senator Paul indicated he is open to suggestions and improvements on the proposed bill from the research community, and institutions can send comments on the bill to the Chair, Senator Gary Peters (D-MI) and Ranking Member Paul or to their own Senator, should they be represented on HSGAC.
