The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Defense Sciences Office (DSO) is hosting a hybrid workshop to provide information and facilitate technical discussions with potential proposers about the Critical Orientation of Mathematics to Produce Advancements in Science and Security (COMPASS) Advanced Research Concept (ARC) Opportunity. Scheduled for Wednesday, March 5, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET, the event will introduce the COMPASS Opportunity, offer a broad program overview, and feature discussions with government personnel and leading researchers.
COMPASS seeks proposals that apply new mathematical frameworks to develop novel problem formulations for defense applications; of interest are advancements in complex systems and modern probability to address one or more of the following problem classes: heterogeneous and multiscale behavior in large systems or networks, stochastic processes in dynamic or information-limited environments, and random geometric structures in high dimensions. DARPA strongly encourages participation from non-traditional performers, including small businesses, academic institutions, research organizations, and first-time government contractors, to expand the pool of innovative research concepts. Proposals for COMPASS are due by May 12, 2025, and will be evaluated on a rolling basis. Funding is limited, and if exhausted, DARPA may shorten the submission period through an amendment.
The workshop is for informational purposes only and not a formal solicitation. Attendance is free, but registration is required by Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. ET (or until capacity is reached). The event is open to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and foreign nationals who must submit documentation byFebruary 26, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. ET.
