Congressional Update: House Science, Space, and Technology Committee Holds Hearing on Research Security

Lewis-Burke Associates has provided campus with a report about the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee's hearing on Examining Federal Science Agency Actions to Secure the U.S. Science and Technology Enterprise on Thursday February 15.  Witnesses included Dr. Arati Prabhakar, Director, White House Office of Science and Technology Policy; Dr. Rebecca Keiser, Chief of Research Security Strategy and Policy at the National Science Foundation (NSF); Dr. Geri Richmond, Undersecretary for Science and Innovation, Department of Energy (DOE); and Dr. Michael Lauer, Deputy Director for Extramural Research, National Institutes of Health (NIH).  The purpose of the hearing was to examine research security and undue foreign influence in federally funded research in the United States, as well as to discuss how agencies are implementing research security provisions included in legislation such as the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022 and the 2021 and 2022 National Defense Authorization Acts.
