On July 26, the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee approved its draft fiscal year (FY) 2025 Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies (CJS) appropriations bill and associated committee report. The Senate Committee used emergency spending to fund non-defense agencies above the tight Fiscal Responsibility Caps. Due to these additional resources, the Senate Committee would provide modest increases to all major research agencies and economic development programs while the House Committee would propose slightly less for science agencies along with deep cuts to many economic development, climate, and justice programs. A full breakdown of each agency and how key programs would change is included in the Lewis-Burke analysis.
