Lewis-burke has provodes an analysis(link is external) of the fiscal year (FY) 2025 House and Senate Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies (Ag-FDA) appropriations bills. Last week, the House and Senate Appropriations Committees passed their respective versions of the bill, with the House bill advancing on a party-line vote and the Senate bill receiving unanimous approval. Both bills hold the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) and the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) approximately flat compared to the FY 2024 enacted levels. The House bill would slightly reduce NIFA funding overall, but includes some modest proposed increases to a few research and extension programs. The Senate bill proposes a small boost to the NIFA budget and would flat fund nearly all NIFA programs.
