Army Applications Lab Releases BAA for Disruptive Applications

The U.S. Army Futures Command’s (AFC) Army Applications Laboratory (AAL) released a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) for Disruptive Applications, updated from its inaugural release in 2019.  The AAL brings together government, academia, industry, and other ecosystems to conduct innovative research and development (R&D) of technologies that will revolutionize Army capabilities.  This BAA will be continuously open to enable AAL to fund researchers who propose innovative research in disruptive technologies in relatively short periods of time. 

The AAL seeks cutting-edge technology to support AFC’s seven modernization priorities: Long-Range Precision Fires, Next Generation Combat Vehicles, Future Vertical Lift, Army Network, Air and Missile Defense Capabilities, Soldier Lethality, and Contested Logistics (new).  The BAA’s three lines of effort are the discovery, acceleration, and translation of disruptive technology applications.  BAA areas of interest include but are not limited to:

  • Autonomous platforms
  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML)
  • Data visualization and synthetic environments
  • Assured Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT)
  • Power generation and management technologies
  • Sensing
  • Communications & networks
  • Computation
  • Space
  • Internet of Things (IoT)
  • Quantum Technologies
  • Signature reduction
  • Protection
  • Human Performance
  • Contested Logistics (new)
  • Kinetic Payload (new)

Due Dates: Proposers are required to submit white papers through www.aal.mil.  AAL will notify applicants if they have been invited to submit a full proposal.  Proposals will be accepted on a rolling basis until April 4, 2029.
