Lewis-Burke has provided campus with a report about Department of Energy's new $180 million funding opportunity announcement for new fusion energy centers called Fusion Innovation Research Engine (FIRE) collaboratives. The purpose of these centers is to address fusion materials and technology gaps needed to successfully commercialize fusion energy as well as start to build fusion innovation clusters to develop U.S.-based manufacturing and supply chains, workforce development programs, and new job opportunities. This is a limited submission opportunity where UC Berkeley may submit up to four pre-applications and applications. The campus process can be found here.
